Are you having issues with the tyre pressure monitoring system on your car?
We at Eurosparx are able to service, repair and replace TPMS systems and sensors to get you going again!
TPMS stands for Tyre Pressure Monitoring System and is a system that monitors the tyre pressure and warns you if the pressure falls below a certain level. This system is found on practically all modern vehicles.
When the tire pressure falls below the set level, the TPMS sensor sends a signal to the vehicle’s computer system, which then triggers an indicator light on the dashboard to alert the driver that a tyre has low pressure.
Tyre pressure can significantly impact a vehicle’s performance, fuel efficiency, tire longevity, and overall safety, so this system helps to ensure the driver knows if there is an issue with their tyres.
In addition to monitoring tyre pressure, some advanced TPMS sensors can also monitor tyre temperature, which is useful for detecting potential issues before they become a serious problem.
There are two main types of TPMS:
Direct TPMS sensors are mounted directly onto the wheel inside the tire, usually as part of the air valve. These directly measure the tyre pressure and report back to the vehicle’s computer with the data.
Indirect TPMS systems use the wheel speed sensors to calculate the air pressure based on the rotational speed of the tires. By comparing the speed of the wheels to each other, it can calculate if one of the tyres is low on pressure.
TPMS systems allow you to monitor the tyre pressure of the car without having to physically get out and use a pressure gauge to see if the pressure is low or not.
Additionally, they also help to tell you if something may have happened while driving, such as a tyre losing pressure due to a puncture, which you would otherwise not be aware of until you either stopped the car or feel something was wrong – by which time it is often too late to save the tyre.
In this way TPMS sensors not only make driving safer but can save you money by alerting you that your tyres might be having issues and allowing you to stop before you damage the tyre beyond repair.
In order to ensure your TPMS system is working correctly, it needs to be recalibrated if you have:
TPMS sensors are designed to last for many years, and typically need to be replaced every 5-10 years.
This is due to the fact that they are battery powered and the lifespan of the battery is around 5-10 years depending on a number of factors including climate, driving conditions and distances.
However, time is not the only reason you may need to replace your TPMS sensors.
If something has happened which can affect the TPMS sensor, it will need to be replaced. This can include damage from road debris, a collision or accident damage or even damage during mounting or dismounting a tyre.
If you’re noticing persistent issues with your TPMS, such as constant warning lights even after ensuring the tyre pressure is correct, it might be a sign that a sensor needs replacement.
It’s also a good idea to consider getting new sensors when you replace your tyres, since the tyres are already off and will save you having to get the removed, refitted and rebalanced later on.
We at Eurosparx can service, calibrate, repair and replace your TPMS sensors.
We have all the correct tools to relearn and reprogram your system when it needs a calibration, and we can also supply new AUTEL universal sensors which are high quality and usually cheaper than the OEM sensors.
